本日は、砂時計についてお話致します。

Today, I'll talking about sand clocks.

砂時計は揺れや温度などの環境の変化に強いです。そのため、航海の歴史の中で重要な役割を果たしていました。何世紀もの間、海上での時間計測の手段として使用されました。

Sand clocks are resistant to shaking and environmental changes such as temperature. As such, it is important role in the history of navigation. For centuries, it was used as a means of measuring time at sea.

使用方法は、上の容器から下の容器へ砂がすべて落ちるまでの時間を、あらかじめ設定された時間として利用します。

The usage of sand clocks take for all the sand to fall from the upper container to the lower container as the preset time.

砂時計は、用途に応じて色々な種類があります。

There are many different types of sand clocks depending on their purpose.

一般的な砂時計、装飾用・インテリア用砂時計、特殊な砂時計等があります。また、砂の種類によっても変わってきます。

There are regular types of sand clocks and interior / decoration types of sand clocks, special types of sand clocks, etc. They also vary depending on the type of sand.
